Mechanisms driving Canadian entrepreneurship
This issue’s theme touches on some of the mechanisms driving entrepreneurship in Canada. We explore 3 of them: the entrepreneurial mind, the growth stages of high growth companies, and the entrepreneurial-nurturing community of the Waterloo region in Ontario.
We are working hard to make Cool Companies magazine a catalyst for inspiring more entrepreneurial thinking in Canada too. Since our last issue we have made major enhancements to our magazine and how we run it:
- We have become a peer-to-peer reviewed publication
This is a similar approach used by scientific journals. It means that all of our magazine content must be approved by our Editorial Advisory Committee. Our committee members are successful Canadian entrepreneurial leaders, just like you – your peers. They come from a variety of company sizes and industries across Canada. We’ve gone to this effort because we want to ensure that you – our readers – continue to receive the high quality content you’ll find in this issue. When we declared in our last issue that Cool Companies magazine was For Entrepreneurs By EntrepreneursTM, we meant it! This is one way we can demonstrate our commitment to this strategy and stay accountable to it – and to you. - We now have the best editorial advisor in Canada
I wanted the person leading our Editorial Advisory Committee to really understand how entrepreneurs think and be well-versed in publishing for this audience. I found the perfect person: It’s an honour for me to introduce to you the Chair of our Editorial Advisory Committee and my friend, Donald Rumball. He is the former Business Editor of The Financial Post and he was the intrapreneur, founding Editor and Publisher who started Profit magazine from scratch in 1982. I really like Donald’s fresh perspective on the type of high quality information entrepreneurs are looking for to help them grow their companies; the research that fuelled this issue’s article on the Stages of Growth was based on Donald’s more recent consulting project for the Ontario Government. - We added polish
When people have an awesome experience with a product or service, they tell their friends and each time they do it helps them re-live the event in their mind and makes them happy. We want you to have an awesome experience reading Cool Companies magazine! So our new editorial formula is a full-color magazine with beautiful graphics and Canada-wide content. We have trimmed down the number of pages to decrease our cover price ($12.95) and subscription prices (see p.8), and to help us bring you 3 issues per year. As our advertising revenue increases, we will continue to add pages.
It’s all good progress! It feels fantastic to be at the mid-point of our 3rd publishing year, well-positioned for a strong future. Your support in helping us get here is appreciated. Thank you!
